What is IV Sedation?

IV sedation is commonly required for oral surgeries and complex dental procedures. A small IV will be inserted into your arm to administer a safe sedative, allowing you to enter a relaxed state similar to sleep. This makes the procedure more comfortable and manageable for you. IV sedation is generally safe for most patients and is often necessary for more invasive treatments.

Why IV Sedation?

There are several reasons why IV sedation could be the most suitable choice for you. If you are facing oral surgery or a complex procedure and prefer to be asleep during it, IV sedation may be recommended. Additionally, if you have difficulty sitting still or relaxing during treatment, this sedative can help alleviate those issues. IV sedation can make the treatment process smoother for both our staff and yourself.

Who can have IV Sedation?

The majority of patients visiting our office are suitable candidates for IV sedation. Before recommending any sedative, we will carefully assess your health and medical history. If you are unable to receive sedation, please inform us during your appointment. IV sedation is suitable for both children and adult patients who may require it.

What happens during IV Sedation?

To begin the process, you will be comfortably seated in one of our operatories. A small IV will be placed in your arm to deliver a safe and effective sedative. Within about 15 minutes, you will start to feel a sleep-like state. The procedure will then be performed as necessary. Afterward, the IV will be removed and you will be taken to a recovery room. You will be given time to fully wake up before leaving the office. It is important to have a friend or relative available to take you home if needed.
